Most of us have heard of the recent outbreak of Avian Flu and what it has done to the poultry industry. In order to stop the spread of the disease, millions of birds were destroyed.

There are many ways that disease can spread, but there are things that those who have to deal with it, particularly egg producers - can do to greatly minimize the risk.

One very important way is to reduce cross contamination of transport dunnage, such as pallets and dividers.

Many still use wood pallets. These cannot be completely decontaminated, and pose a significant risk of carrying disease. Many have switched to plastic pallets which can be washed, but they are heavy and difficult to handle.
